While waiting for van Persie, Cesc, Hleb, Diaby and Walcott to return from injury (and Jens to get sanity, Gilberto to warm the bench and Senderos to get his head right), let's play this!

I've got to say, World Cup and Champions League helped my geography A LOT!

the darkness of the matinée

It would be easy to laugh and point and poke at Chavski at the moment. Even more so with the hilarious revelation of such by guardian.co.uk. Instead, I am just baffled at the ludicrousness of the fall out.

Don't lie, we've all hoped this would happened when they won the league in 2005. We all secretly hoped that the 'bridge' would be falling down (oh bad pun, I know), even if it's by the sheer weight of FatFrank.

I've never liked Mourinho. He's a good manager, I'd give him that. He is special, if the oxford dictionary ever changes the meaning to 'a classless tosser'. I always felt he can be disrespectful, having no regard whatsoever of the implications of his actions and is a big liar. But yeah, he gives the best pre-match conferences and post-match interviews. So much better than the half hearted attempt conjured by Sam Allerdyce (trying hard to wind up Rafa and ooh got beaten by Derby and ooooh Rafa spat back and ooooh accuses Rafa for dishing it and not being able to eat it. You xenophobic twat).

It would be amazing if these hearsay turned out to be true. The sight of Sheva TRANSLATING for Roman to tell Essien, who is clearly Chavski's best player thus far, what to do, is just stuff made of gold bread spread with saffron butter. What a circus!

I also have never liked Kenyon. He and David Dein should be strapped on a seatless bicycle and be made to ride it on gravel roads.

And John Terry? Decent footballer but clearly he thinks he's better than he is. What is wrong with English players? Must be the water or something. This is going to sound unsporting and so so so wrong but I wished Diaby had kicked his face harder in the Carling Cup final. What a diva.

Speaking of Diaby, Arsenal! Oh yes. Um, I'd rather not blow the trumpet just yet. I think I will just enjoy the moment. The solidarity has been apparent for the past few seasons as the younger players gel together (I swear I read somewhere that about 4 years ago, Robin and Cesc went clubbing together hahahahaha. Where? Definitely not Cynna or Espanda la ok?) but this year I am enjoying the love fest. It's like personal egos are dropped at the door and they're all happy to be a part of it. Close friends and family know how and what I feel about Thierry (I love him but I hate him? Even before the Barca debacle) but I don't enjoy the whole Arsenal are so much better without Thierry. I feel it's almost as if discarding what he's done for us. Don't get me wrong, I still think he's an arrogant mediawhore but let's just take it that we parted ways at the right time. Who knows what would've happened had he stayed. Him leaving probably was a huge impact on our impressive start this season, but rather because of he was debilitating towards our progress last season, I'd like to think that the current players are now thinking, 'right, we can't rely on Henry anymore, so let's do this shit ourselves'. It's like when Lizarazu said that whenever the French team didn't know what to do, they just passed the ball to Zizou. Maybe that was the same with Arsenal last season. It's also probably because Thierry DEMANDS for the ball but who's to say he didn't deserve to demand for it?

Ok, maybe point is not well thought out. But yeah. It sounds brilliant in my head.

I always thought Thierry was a better player with Pires alongside him. hahahahahahhaha

Point is, I love the form we're in. The football we're playing isn't half bad. Sagna has impressed me the most. It's like he came in and proved the theory of footballers needing half a season to acclimatise is just a pathetic excuse. Clichy is such a joy to watch. He's got this infectious smile and yet he's got a scar. So he might be those who would make poodles out of a balloon and shoot you in the face. I am not sure. I think he's bloody brilliant though. Galloping run and all. Muy bien. Ade is shocking. I keep telling people that he's the type of player who would frustrate you to no end for 87 minutes and then score a hattrick. Or miss the simplest tap ins and score a scorcher of a goal. Dissociative goalscorer disorder, yes? He's so crazy, I am growing to love him now.

I am slowly losing faith in Senderos. How can someone who looks damn good playing for his country, stutters when playing for us is a wonder. I am still clinging to the fact he was incredible against the 1-0 win against Bayern manymanymany moons ago, was in immense form for the CL run two seasons ago and makes a fantastic recovery challenge (but that requires him to screw up first. so...), in hope that those things weren't a succession of flukish performance. Buck up and improve, you skinhead monster!

I used to argue with khalilmakata about Flamini. He has always rated him, while I feel that he lacked a bit of technical ability. He's got plenty of drive and heart though. I thought his performance at left back or right back is good, but assumed that was probably attributed to the fact that it wasn't his natural position, therefore we might not expect him to do great, and when he does the job OK, it's somehow amplified to be a world class performance. I really like him now.

I also just want to say that I will be needing serious emotional/psychological help when Cesc does eventually leave Arsenal. Oh the dreaded day.

Anyway, focus is on the match today. I might actually watch it. A draw would be great, thanks!

Cardiac arrhythmia

I didn't watch the Seville vs Getafe match but managed to watch some highlights on Skysports while I was in this gorgeously quaint hotel (was there for a wedding of a good friend). That hotel had an LCD flat screen. With cable. Insanity.

Anyway, the point of this post is:
Descansa en paz Antonio.

Mien fuhrer hates Wednesday

Ah, the sweetness of new season. Football, how I have missed thee.

Despite me wishing ill on every footballers that does not wear the red and white (and shamefully, full on white AND the rip off vertical pseudo-Barca kit), I look forward to the next 9 months.

Although there are a number of concerns regarding my club (e.g. needing proper wingers, ex-Chavski as captain and 4-5-1 vs 4-4-2), I decide to turn a blind eye and focus on the news that Sheffield United has now resorted to suing West Ham United for the 'farce' it was last season. What they are appealing is some form of compensation of being relegated instead of West Ham who are accused of shoddy business deals. If I had Boromir's (Sean Bean, lifelong supporter of Sheffield Utd) number, I'd advice him to give it a rest. You lot got relegated NOT because of Tevez or Mascherano. It's because you didn't get enough points. Serves you lot right for calling my boys babies. Twat.

I suppose I shouldn't hold any grudge against them. It's in the past. Time to move on and all that ridiculous cliches people tell you when they don't know what else to say. I suppose they're right. We might lose on Sunday courtesy of a brilliant goal by the ever so sexy Roque Santa Cruz (convert to Islam and make me your second wife, you gorgeous bastard!)

To end this pointless post, I present you a hilarious clip found on youtube regarding the Sheffield vs West Ham malarkey.

Lovelots,
Kay Sagna

makEs mE wondEr(ful)...

Finally… after several month of waiting and pondering it’s finally back for a new season. Regardless what league religion you follow; La Liga, Seria A, Bundesliga, French league and of course The Premiership, the epitome of football never disappoint its faithful followers.

As always, off season football was never dull with transfer sagas which keep us on our toes. Many would have say that the biggest transfer of the off season would be the move of Theirry Henry, though I would miss seeing his tantalizing moves in the premiership I would like to see how he adapt himself in the La Liga. Arsenals life after Titi would be an interesting one; I’m not surprise if they (Arsenal) could prove to be a better team without their talismatic man. Van Persie would have a have a big striking boots to fill-in with Titis’ departure, which personally I don’t see it as a problem for him linking up with other fellow strikers; Eduardo, Bentner and Adebayor. Hopefully there’s no more “the team is in transition” excuse this time around.

Other big move that was anticipated by me was the transfer of Fernando Torres to the premiership, and it sadden me to see him choosing Liverpool, but never the less where else would most of us see where he’ll might end up (with all the Spanish contingent at anfield). It was a masterstroke move by Rafeal Banitez, or will it be one of the one season strikers to make up the numbers (remember what happened to Cisse, Morientes, Bellamy and Fowler). It will be appealing to see how Liverpool actually raises their game for the new season, and hopefully Harry Kewel will finally get to finish a season.

Though Manchester United made early arrangements during their off season by purchasing youthful names like; Nani, Anderson, and Hargreaves, I have doubts on how often Sir Alex would use especially Nani and Anderson. From my past experience Sir Alex has always stick with his preferred midfield, like when he bought a certain Juan Sebastian Veron, Karel Poborsky and Jordi Cryuff. Thus this time it would be different since Scholes and Giggsy may not have the same energy as they did 3 seasons back. The expected departure of Alan Smith didn’t surprise me; don’t get me wrong Smuge is an excellent striker but his lack of pace seems to be his Achilles heel (love his passion; wish him all the best at Newcastle). Would like to see how Man U gel the team together this time around.

It’s strange to see a club who with infinity amount of money getting players for free (makes you wonder is the divorce of owner is drying up the well). The anticipation of whether Robben, Ballack and Lampard will stay is something to ponder upon.

Other interesting transaction for me (in the premiership) is Jeremie Aliadiere move to Boro, if he stays injury free I would predict that he would be a big hit over there. It would be interesting to see how Martin Jol to keep his strikers happy (Berbatov, De Foe, Keane and Bent), we know he will off-load Mido for sure… -thE prEludE-

omnibus

I hate it when footballers couldn't even smile or indicate civil acknowledgment when receiving the losers medal. My criticism isn't confined to the Mancs today because the same happened when the kids lost the Carling Cup this year. I know lah the pain is like unbearable (try being a fan though, at least if you're a player you have the outlet to at least provide some effort to change the game, us armchair fans are confined to swearing and criticizing every Ali, Billy and Julio).

I don't know. It almost feels as if it was a facade in front of the camera/fans to show 'yes, we're well gutted we couldn't play football to win it or put in the tackle that might have prevented that huge margin of error, look at our ('____') faces. We're so sad. We're going to drown in our £2986 worth of booze in our Aston Martins and dry our tears with those excessive wad of cash'.

But I suppose it's also difficult to not put up the ('___') face because it might be misconstrued as you do not care. If else fails, put on a rant like Thierry Henry last year when we lost the Champions League. That rant wasn't very diplomatic or sporting but damn, I felt closer to Thierry on that day. Unfortunately, that rant was almost a starting point of the media and other fans to decide that Thierry is suddenly a sore loser, an arrogant bastard and a media whore. Took you that long to figure that out eh? We knew it yonks ago but we still love him because he is our arrogant bastard.

Lifting the red mist (and hairy carpets), I think that Ryan Giggs is still very attractive. First football crush thanks to imaginEEtor. I find it creepy now though cause I fancy someone my brother idolize/want to be. Freud would have a field day chatting with me.

I didn't watch the match until the second half of extra time. Was waiting for it to go to penalties. I love penalties. I am sick of people/commentators saying how it would be a 'travesty' should a game be decided on penalties. I think it's a fair means to decide the winner. Matches won are determined by goals (and dodgy refereeing ;) therefore making sure you outweigh the penalties scored by your opponents would make sense if you couldn't achieve it in normal time. Plus that ought to teach those people who are approaching the game not to lose rather than to win it (I think Arsene is prone to that approach lately and I well bloody hate it). Fair enough, playing 'football' sometimes won't win you games so you have to resort to this absurd snooze-fest excuse of tactics that would enable you to score that one goal via one opportunity. I have a problem with that but it doesn't de-legitimize (ada ke perkataan ni?) the win because it is all about scoring goals. In terms of penalties, it is also good to see who is capable to perform under immense pressure. Arsene was right in a way about how he doesn't see the importance of practicing penalties because it's impossible to translate what you've done on the training ground to a stadium filled with almost half the supporter wanting you to hoof the ball.

However, I don't think it's completely useless. I remember in one Pires' interview, he said he used to practice head to head sudden death penalties with one of his team mates in Reims (he was probably 14 or something) and it would go on until late at night cause both of them would not miss it. I suppose he quit doing that and improvised with Thierry with that hilarious attempt of Cruijff penalty against Manchester Citeeeh last season. It wasn't hilarious then, it is now.

Robin also practices penalties. He would work with the keeper by indicating where he is going to shoot and then finding the spot that is beyond the keeper's reach. I thought that's genius because you'd know the keeper is going the way you're shooting but you have the confidence that your aim is going to be precise, it's going to be impossible for the keeper to save it.

It's no coincidence that both Pires and van Persie have an impressive record for penalties and their penalty kicks are almost always very good and unsavable.

The penalties by Espanyol last Wednesday was horrible (except for Pandiani, his was very good). Sevilla's wasn't that great either. Even Kanoute's effort was horrible and was lucky cause the keeper guessed the wrong way.

Which now reminds me of Lauren's penalty against Tottenham many seasons ago. He just rolled it in the middle, the crazy bastard. Was very hilarious because didn't think he had the cheek and composure. Respect habis.

So yeah, I enjoy penalties (maybe cause we're the team with most awarded penalties in the Premiership this season, not that the conversion was 100%. Damn you Julio). I also think penalty shoot out is a fair means of deciding the winner. Just as long as it's not my team because I'd hate it if we lose on one.
